Blur - Blur (Adolygiad / Review)
This blog is meant as a place for students to contribute and share work and ideas and this is the first installment! Iona is a student in the second year and is studying Art and Design as well as the Welsh Bac. This is her review:
I'd like to review my favourite album at the moment which is the band Blur’s album Blur.
This album is their fifth released, it came out back in February 1997 and features a total of 14 songs, including 4 of their best singles. Britpop as a genre had been very unsuccessful in the US until their single Song 2 dropped, that led to this album being the band’s best in the US.
This album was quite a stylistic change from Blur’s usual heavier music, but the risk paid off when this became one of their most successful albums of all time. This album was more influenced by American indie pop, due to guitarist Graham Cox taking more responsibility for the band’s musical direction.
I personally love this album for many reasons, mainly being because I love indie rock as a genre, but also because of their ingenuity and diversity in style within the album. For example, you have the song Beetlebum which is in an indie rock style that’s very typical of American indie, then you have Song 2 that’s a short 2 minute heavy rock song.
I definitely recommend giving this album a listen if you’re into any kind of rock or heavy pop!
